Preston “Prizzie” Reid is an American mixing engineer and producer whose work spans pop, global music, R&B, hip-hop, and beyond. His career connects contemporary record-making with industry leadership and audio technology, bringing a musician’s sensitivity and an engineer’s precision to projects across genres and cultures. From intimate vocal performances to rhythm-driven productions, his approach centers on preserving the character of the artist while giving every element of a record clarity, depth, and purpose.
Preston’s credits include Muni Long’s GRAMMY Award-winning “Hrs & Hrs,” Usher’s “Good Good,” Kanye West’s Donda, and Omah Lay’s Boy Alone. His broader catalog includes work with artists such as Jimin of BTS, Tyla, Summer Walker, PinkPantheress, Ozuna, BabyChiefDoit, Jacquees, Vedo, Jade Novah, and Rini. These collaborations reflect a practice that moves fluidly between established voices and emerging talent, shaped by the distinct musical language of each project.
At the heart of Preston’s work is a focus on how a record feels. He approaches mixing as both a technical discipline and an extension of the creative process: balancing impact with detail, giving vocals space to communicate, and ensuring that the production supports the song’s emotional center. His work also extends to television, including Step Up: High Water, bringing that same attention to storytelling into music made for the screen.
The foundation
From Chicago to Atlanta.
Born in Chicago, Preston developed his early studio experience within the city’s emerging drill scene, working on records with artists including Chief Keef. That environment placed him close to a sound being defined in real time, where immediacy, energy, and an unmistakable artistic identity mattered as much as technical polish. The experience helped shape an approach grounded in listening closely to the artist and protecting the qualities that make a performance compelling.
In 2015, Preston relocated to Atlanta, continuing his career at Silent Sound Studios and later Triangle Sound Studios. Under the mentorship of producer Tricky Stewart, he further developed his understanding of arrangement, intention, and the relationship between a song and its final mix. His path from Chicago to Atlanta brought together two distinct musical environments and expanded the range of artists, sounds, and creative processes informing his work.

Beyond his recording credits, Preston serves as a Governor of the Recording Academy’s Atlanta Chapter. The role extends his involvement in music beyond the studio and into the professional community, where advocacy, education, and connection help support the people behind the records. It reflects an ongoing commitment to participating in the industry he works within and contributing to its next chapter.
Preston is also a co-owner of Naturl Audio, where he contributed to the development of the AL-1 limiter. His involvement brings a working mixer’s perspective to audio-tool development, connecting the demands of real sessions with the decisions that shape how a processor sounds and feels in use. It is a continuation of the same craft from another angle: helping create tools that serve the music and the people making it.
Education remains another part of his practice. Through tutorials and mixing breakdowns on YouTube, SonicScoop, and many more, as well as mentorship and outreach, Preston shares the thinking behind his work—not only the settings or techniques, but the listening and decision-making that guide them. By making that process more accessible, he connects his own studio experience with engineers developing their skills and finding their creative voice.
